The National Grid submitted their proposal to the Planning Inspectorate on March 27th and this was accepted by the set deadline of  April 24th. This now means that application documents have been published and comments invited.

The next stages are as follows:

Pre-examination – Applicants usually have 3 months to register to comment on the plan.

Examination – Up to 6 months to submit comments.

Recommendation – Up to 3 months for the Examining Authority to write a recommendation report and send it to the Secretary of State.

Decision – the Secretary of State has 3 months to make a final decision.

Post Decision – Within 6 weeks challenges can be made to the High Court for a judicial review
