From May 16th to 26th there will be events throughout the town to commemorate the 85th Anniversary of Operation Dynamo and the role of the Little Ships and the importance of Ramsgate Harbour in rescuing more than 338,000 British, French and Belgian troops from Dunkirk beaches.

The Ramsgate Society is proud to have joined many local organisations to make this a showpiece for our newly designated Heritage Harbour status offering a great many free events for locals and visitors alike. These include:

  • From May 15th the coming together of over 70 of the original little ships in the harbour before leaving with escort vessels including Royal Navy warships for the crossing to Dieppe in the early morning of May 21st. They return again on May 26th. (Actual trip times weather and sea condition dependent)
  • The paddle steamer Medway Queen, also a heroine of Dunkirk, returns to Ramsgate after major repair work on our slipway and there will be an opportunity to go on board.
  • We are one of the main sponsors of the programme of three relevant films to be shown May 19th to 21st at the Granville Theatre – all completely free to just turn up and watch. Fuller details in the Events section of this website.
  • Plus displays in the Tunnels and Royal temple Yacht Club, all kinds of live music, a light show, children’s events, military vehicles, an air display featuring the only surviving airworthy Fairey Swordfish biplane and very much more.
