A post from our Chairman, John Walker:

As you are probably aware, TDC are currently deliberating on where to reallocate some of the Levelling Up Fund grant, previously allocated to projects that are now not going ahead for various reasons.

On February 26th I sent a letter to Louise Askew (Head of Regeneration and Growth at TDC) to request the Council to revisit our suggestion to allocate the necessary funds to restore this Historic and listed Dry Dock as part of the Clock House and Pier Yard projects.  It was always envisaged by The Ramsgate Society in our original proposal of 2016 that Smeaton’s Dry Dock would be integral to developing the area around The Clock House.

To back this up I attached a copy of the Ove Arup Report on the Smeaton Dry Dock (2016) and also a recent report from Dianne Harvey White making the case for the importance of the Smeaton Dry Dock in terms of heritage regeneration, the visitor economy and employment.

Finally, I expressed the hope that the LUF Project Team will find the time to read and discuss these documents. Members can also download them below to read for yourself.

I’ll let you know the response once we receive it.
