There are three talks coming up in September. All are FREE but the two from the Ramsgate Society require pre-booking. Click on ‘Events’ on the index page of this website for more details of content and speakers plus links for the two that require pre-booking.

In Short:

On Monday September 9th at 7pm the Ramsgate Society welcomes Henry Cleary OBE, Chair of the Maritime Trust to talk about the Heritage Harbour scheme to which Ramsgate has now been admitted at a member. This will be at the San Clu but unlike our normal talks, all are invited and there is no charge because it is within the Heritage Open Days activities. We do however still require you to pre-book so we can control the numbers.

On Wednesday September 11th at 5pm The Pugin Society welcomes Paul Atterbury (Curator of the original V&A exhibition and familiar from Antiques Roadshow) and Rosemary Hill (Pugin biographer) for a discussion about Pugin’s reputation 30 years on from the V&A exhibition of his work in 1994. This takes place in St Augustine’s Church and no pre-booking is required – just make a big note in your diary and turn up promptly!

On Friday September 13th at 7pm the Ramsgate Society welcomes back freelance heritage consultant, Diane Harvey-White to talk about both the lead up and later impact of George IV declaring Ramsgate to be a Royal Harbour. It will include the influence on harbourmasters and the royal visits up until the Royal Temple Yacht Club was granted its Royal title. This will be at the San Clu but, as with the Monday event, all are invited and there is no charge because it is within the Heritage Open Days activities. We do however still require you to pre-book so we can control the numbers.
